The Siren team used the slack time on Boavista with the SUP.
SUP is the perfect addition to any wind sports holiday - even on Cape Verde. As the third largest island in Cape Verde, Boavista is primarily known as a windsurfing and wingfoil destination.

On good days like here in the video also surfing fantastic waves. Directly in front of the surf centre in the shelter of an offshore island in Sal Rei, however, the water is usually calmer and the wind blows predominantly diagonally offshore or sideshore. The team from Siren Supsurfing went on an exploration tour with the SUP on Cape Verde and brought back some completely new perspectives and impressions in words and pictures: "Boa Vista, one of the Cape Verde islands, is located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 600 kilometres off Senegal, and inspires with its relaxed "no stress" attitude to life. In winter, the island offers perfect conditions for water sports with pleasant temperatures and constant wind. Our SIREN SUPsurfing team took advantage of these conditions to test the revised all-round i-SUP board Mahi 10.0 and produce content. The Water sports centre from Planet Allsports in Sal Rei served as the perfect basis."

SUP on the Cape Verde Islands: Calm bays and challenging waves

The team found the conditions to be very varied: "The area offers calm bays for beginners and challenging waves for advanced surfers. In addition to water sports, the endless sand dunes, volcanic landscapes and paradisiacal beaches are fascinating. Sandboarding in the desert and exploratory tours with local guides rounded off the experience. In culinary terms, Boa Vista impressed with its freshly caught fish. Tuna tataki, raw tuna in a sesame crust, and the local fish esmoregal in particular became our favourites. The relaxed atmosphere, hospitality and perfect conditions for water sports made the trip unforgettable."

Deputy Editor in Chief surf

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
