Surf movies are set in California, Hawaii or Australia - what a load of rubbish! "The Investor" is an independent surf movie and is set in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, more precisely at the Wustrow surf centre, with the real makers of the surf centre and filmed on location. But that's it for authenticity - the rest is wild fiction.

And that's the point: The Wustrow surf centre has seen its best days. The number of visitors is falling towards zero, and if managing directors Martin, Sveni and Oli don't find an external financier, they are threatened with bankruptcy. When, with more luck than sense, the men manage to borrow several million euros from an investor (Henry Hübchen), they can hardly believe it. The investor is also happy, because thanks to this placement in the trend sports scene, he can finally turn his back on the arms lobby.

But the cartel reacts with suspicion: who is seriously investing in "surfing"? While the syndicate's henchmen target the leisure centre because they suspect a lucrative secret under the NVA concrete, the three surfers squander their backer's millions. When they realise that the former arms dealer is no joke and the air is getting thinner and thinner for them, they plan their escape across the Baltic Sea to the Caribbean with ship captain Hans (Friedrich Liechtenstein) ...

Who is behind "The Investor"?

In the independent surf film THE INVESTOR, Henry Hübchen, who was himself a two-time GDR board sailing champion before his acting career, plays a tough yield shark who discovers his heart for water sports at the Wustrow surf centre on the Baltic Sea. The emphasised nonchalance is provided by co-author Friedrich Liechtenstein as harmonica-playing Captain Hans. Isabell Gerschke and Ernest Hausmann can also be seen in other roles.

The surf action comedy by Berlin filmmaker Jarek Raczek, who was responsible for production, direction, screenplay, camera, editing, scenography and costume design, was shot with the smallest possible carbon footprint - 100% locally at original locations, primarily in and around the Wustrow surf centre, without flights or real explosions. You don't have to do it that way, but you can. The film will be available digitally from 3 August. Until then, you can read an interview with the makers of the Wustrow surf centre here. As a little foretaste, we present the trailer for "The Investor" here.

Tobi is our digital man, he looks after the surf website and social media channels and gets on everyone's nerves every morning by asking for more pictures and videos. His surfing CV includes all the famous choppy water spots: As a teenager, he went from his home in Münsterland to the Ijsselmeer or the Brouwersdam, and during his civilian service on Sylt, after countless washes on the west side, the Königshafen became his preferred spot. After studying in Kiel and Heidkate, he was supposed to go to Hamburg “only for a short time”, but this short time has lasted for over ten years and has made him a “weekend warrior”. He goes on tour with his family and camper van as often as possible, often to the Baltic Sea, SPO or Denmark, but also likes to go to Finland, Sweden or Sardinia.
