Suhrendorf on the island of Ummanz near Rügen is considered the largest surfing area in Germany and has many fans. The surf hostel "Ummaii" and the neighbouring Tiki Bar are now to be sold. The "Uns Eigen" co-operative has been founded to save the facilities and the spirit of the spot.

The Surfhostel Ummaii is not only known for its location right next to one of the best uphill and freeride areas in Germany, but also for its role as the cultural and social centre of the region. It's not just surfing that takes place here, but also concerts, camps and much more can be experienced in Suhrendorf in a great atmosphere. The hostel and bar are to be sold at the end of the year, which is why a co-operative called "Uns Eigen" has now been founded to maintain and develop the facilities. "We fear that the place will fall into the hands of investors and lose its authentic atmosphere," says spokesperson Anna-Carina Thygs.

The aim of the cooperative is to preserve the spirit of Ummaii as a meeting place and the centrepiece of Ummanz - "for the island, for the surf culture, for all of us." "Uns Eigen" is committed to ensuring that Ummaii remains in the hands of the community "and does not lose its character through an impersonal investment".

The cooperative welcomes any support - be it through membership, donations or sharing their vision. "Let's preserve this special place together and ensure a vibrant future on Ummanz!" appeals Anna-Carina.
