In good conditions, the Bullis in Hanstholm stand close together.
A surf club has been founded in Hanstholm, which Cold Hawaii fans from Germany can now also join. In addition to joint sessions, the locals also want to represent the interests of water sports enthusiasts to the fishing industry and harbour operators.

The Hanstholm Surf Club was founded last year and is based in the red harbour building on the water behind the long pier. From March to November, all interested members meet there to go out on the water or have lunch together. Surfboards and wetsuits can also be hired from the club. Hanstholm fans who do not live in Denmark can now also become members and support the surf club with their membership fees. As a little goodie, there is a sticker for your car with which you can identify yourself as a Hanstholm supporter.

"Our aim is to strengthen a positive community and sustainable development of surfing activities, the surfing environment and surf tourism in Hanstholm," the website states. "Hanstholm Surf Club also aims to safeguard the interests of surfers in the protection and development of Hanstholm's unique surf spots, including Fishermans Corner, Fakir, Fish Factory, Middles, Hamburg, Campsite and Vigsø Bay."

Possible danger to the spots from the harbour

As some of the spots and the access road are located on the harbour's industrial site, the entire area is under constant threat. Jobst Paepcke, who runs the "Stormfarmen" guesthouse in Klitmøller, writes in an email to surf: "A few years ago, the harbour was expanded for a lot of money and, partly due to the effects of Brexit, it has developed much worse economically than predicted. It is currently in receivership, which means there is no longer any local control. The interests of water sports enthusiasts, which already carried very little weight, are now in acute danger of being jeopardised." Although there are no immediate plans concerning the surf spots in Hanstholm, the general situation makes it very sensible for water sports enthusiasts to be represented. Among other things, the surf club wants to use the membership fees to take legal action in case of doubt.

The surf spots in Hanstholm are very popular with surfers from many countries and are among the best wave spots in Northern Europe. Surf Magazine is also often on site for testing and private sessions. The large meadow in the dunes has been significantly upgraded in recent years and, in addition to a toilet block, a staircase has been built this year to connect the spot with the town centre. Since the closure of the eponymous fishmeal factory, the odours on the beach have also become much more pleasant.
