Climate: In summer it is very hot in Slovenia and there is usually only a light breeze. Zusterna is the only spot that could offer gliding conditions with large equipment. However, the best time is in spring, autumn and winter. It is still very warm compared to Austria and Germany, and the bora can be very strong. In winter, a thick wetsuit with a bonnet and shoes are a must. However, you can still go surfing on warm days (water 15 degrees, air 10 degrees). The best address for a competent wind forecast is www.slosurf.com/vreme/vreme.asp . Click on "Veter 10m" with the mouse and select the time.
Schools, shops etc: There are two windsurfing schools in Slovenia. They offer courses for beginners and are only open in summer. One school is located in Portoroz mrwiundsurfing@hotmail.com the other is in Zusterna near the windsurfing club www.kjdbum.tripod.com . There is a shop (B-Point) in Koper that sells surf stuff, but the selection is very limited. It is located next to the football stadium. The next larger shop is in Ljubljana, where you can buy all the well-known brands. For sail and board repairs, go to Mare. He has the necessary equipment to carry out professional repairs. He also shapes customised boards. Mare lives in Ljubljana but is often on the coast. maresurfboards@email.si or cmdmare@email.si
Food:
There are plenty of different restaurants on the Slovenian coast. The area is crowded with thousands of tourists in summer, so the culinary offer is correspondingly large. You can eat very good fish. We recommend the "Ribiz" restaurant at the surf spot. In Piran there is such a large selection of offers that it is not necessary to name one. Another advantage is that the restaurants are right next to the spot. A good pizzeria (Pizzeria Gust) is located in the centre of Izola.
Accommodation:
There are three campsites on the coast. Camp Adria Ankaran teni.si/adria is located opposite Usterna. The second campsite is in Izola and the third is Camping Lucija next to the harbour in Portoroz. Information about camping in Slovenia can be found at infocamping.com/en/europe/slovenia/index.html Private flats are available to rent on almost every corner, ranging in price from 15 to 20 euros per person. Many of the hotels in Slovenia have been renovated in recent years and meet European standards. The choice here is also very large.
Nightlife:
In the high season, there are many opportunities to turn night into day. In Portoroz in particular, there are many discos and chill-out bars where holidaymakers usually party. In "The Club" in Portoroz (in the Hotel Belvedere) there is a big party every weekend until the morning. During the other seasons there are many student parties (e.g. in the Speed Pub near the railway station in Koper). In Portoroz the Heineken Pub is a good tip. The good thing about the parties is that the drinks are usually very cheap (e.g. Red Bull Vodka 3 euros).
Alternative activities: There are plenty of things you can do when it's calm. Whether it's going for a bike ride or visiting the salt fields near Ribiz, the choice is huge. There are a few diving schools on the coast, the best is in Piran on the cape, and the famous Postojna Caves are 30 minutes away by car. They are among the most beautiful and impressive caves in the world.
