No amount of moaning will help. "We have to save money somehow," I explain to Pascal. The expenses on Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles, are steep: 150 marks for a small hire car, three marks 50 for a litre of Super, 100 marks per night for the cheapest guesthouse and seven marks for a beer in the supermarket. On top of that, camping and spearfishing are prohibited - great prospects. "We'll charter a sailing boat," is the bold idea. That would be one way of avoiding the horrendous prices in the Seychelles and searching for spots from the sea. Thanks to our accreditation as journalists, three days later the charter company Sunsail provides us with the "Limani", a 38-foot sailing yacht, for eight days. Everything is quick and uncomplicated: We meet on 31 July in the port of Victoria on Mahé.
