Wind & Weather

Between November and January Abu Soma Bay the spot of choice! The wind here is controlled by the thermals and usually dies down around 3 pm - in winter a little earlier, in summer it can last into the evening hours. The windiest period is from February to the end of November - with 25 days with at least four Beaufort in November 2014! The period from November to January is also recommended for intermediates. The wind is thermally strengthened here and blows at around one Beaufort more than at the spots in the surrounding area. It comes offshore in the morning and turns to sideshore from the left around eleven o'clock until it finally dies down in the afternoon.

Soma Bay- the spot

You'll find everything your heart desires, from a sheltered standing area for beginners to a flat water slope for speed riders and freestylers to choppy waves. Even a wave can build up! About two kilometres off the coast you will find a wind wave up to one and a half metres high. In front of the PlanetAllsports station you start in a small wind cover, in front of the SurfMotion station there is a protected standing area, which is about 100 by 150 metres in size depending on the tide - you can of course fly anywhere further out and also cross from one station to another in a relaxed manner.

You can hire the latest equipment at two large surfing centres. Rental equipment is also available for kiters at both stations, including shuttle services to the huge bay for kiters upwind. At the SurfMotion station 250 Neilpryde rigs and 150 Fanatic boards are available for you. You can also hire harnesses, neos, shoes and other accessories. If you bring your own equipment, you can store it at the centre. There is also a suitable course for every skill level - whether you want to make your first attempts on the water or want professional tips for your water start, power jibe or shaka.

At the PlanetAllsports station there are 50 rigs from Severne and North Sails and 45 Starboard boards ready for you. For emergencies, there are also plenty of harnesses, neos and other accessories - some of which are free of charge for guests. Of course, you can also store your own equipment on site and choose the right course for every skill level. As a bonus, SUP boards are available for guests, which can carry you off into the sunset - also free of charge.

Accommodation:

The accommodation closest to the centres is the Palm Royale Soma Bay (formerly Intercontinental), the Caribbean World and the new Mövenpick Hotel. At the other end of the bay are the Kempinski Hotel, the Robinson Club Soma Bay and the Sheraton - here too there are small centres, surf courses on site and advanced surfers can easily cruise up to the bay described above. Book you can, among other things, via the Surf & Action Company or via the surf stations.
