Windsurfing on the Westphalian sea Lake Möhne with its 90-year-old dam has a lot to offer surfers. From beginner areas with flat water to speed slopes and a wave spot suitable for loops. Thorsten Luig is a Möhnesee insider, has surfed all the spots himself and knows the lake like the back of his hand. He has put together a spot guide for surf with the best spots and the most important information.

The Möhne dam is the largest body of water in North Rhine-Westphalia. With its 40 kilometres of lakeshore right next to the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park, the "Möhne" is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. As a pure bathing lake and sailing area, it has the best water quality of all the lakes in NRW. The prevailing winds are predominantly westerly and south-westerly, and in spring there are often easterly winds. As a rule, freeride boards of over 120 litres and sails of seven square metres or more are used. In spring and autumn, a few storms regularly pass over the reservoir. On such days, the 4.0 litre sail must be packed. Because of the sharp-edged stones on the beach, 95 per cent of surfers wear shoes. In summer, early risers have an advantage when looking for a parking space.
