The Xantener Südsee in North Rhine-Westphalia has great conditions for windsurfing beginners. Xanten Youth Hostel is once again offering special family surfing courses in the 2026 summer holidays, with a VDWS surfing licence at the end. The surf course for adults and children aged seven and over comprises a total of 12 lessons, spread over three days with morning and afternoon sessions. On two additional days, participants can surf freely during the opening hours of the leisure centre and consolidate what they have learned. VDWS-certified water sports instructors teach the basics of windsurfing in theory and practice.
Surf course, accommodation and catering in a complete package
Xanten Watersports Youth Hostel offers an all-round carefree package for surfing families. Each family has its own shared room with shower and WC. Full board is included, as is a welcome cocktail and a final barbecue evening. The spa fee is also included in the price. Family members who do not wish to take part in the surf course are also welcome.
Ideal learning area for beginners
The Xantener Südsee is the perfect spot to take your first steps on the board. The lake is large enough for an authentic surfing experience, but also offers sheltered bays for safe beginners' exercises. A particular advantage: the South Sea can be travelled in all wind directions. The easterly wind is particularly constant and can blow in unhindered over the neighbouring Rhine.
