The Region also boasts more than ten other lakes such as Lake Toblino, Lake Tenno and Lake Ledro. The latter two are even part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve and enchant guests with their bright blue waters. Hidden in the varied hinterland, they invite you to enjoy adventures such as canyoning, wakeboarding, swimming and relaxing. Each lake is unique and offers its very own charm. Water is the central element of the region. It influences and connects all Areas of Garda Trentino . The numerous lakes are important for enogastronomy and the variety of water sports on offer. They are oases of tranquillity that invite visitors to enjoy wellbeing in nature. Water is also very important for the local economy and agriculture. In the Valle dei Laghi, for example, there are many hydroelectric power plants that are the flagship of new, clean energy.
A precious characteristic that characterises Lake Garda is the wind. It is a constant companion in the municipalities of Garda Trentino directly on the lake. The winds of the region have names that are familiar to all water sports fans. The Pelèr - whose name roughly means that the wind peels or pulls off the wave ("el pela") - blows from the north from 2-3 o'clock at night until 11-12 o'clock and can sometimes reach over seven Beaufort. The most famous wind on the Garda is called Ora, which comes from the Latin for "aura" - the breeze. The Ora is ideal for professionals and comes from the south: it blows from 12-13 o'clock until sunset with an intensity that is further intensified by the orographic characteristics of the Alto Garda. On some days you can feel the Ora as far as the Valle dei Laghi. The wind also favours the growth of some vines there, such as the local Nosiola, and helps them to dry. This enables the production of the famous "Vino Santo". The regular and intense winds over Italy's largest lake and the resulting shallow waves make Lake Garda one of the best places to surf. Regatta courses The world's largest windsurfing centre, which hosts the best international sailors and windsurfers every year. The new trend Wingsurfing can be practised perfectly on Lake Garda. Over 68 water sports events with 210 regatta days per year on Lake Garda and Lake Ledro alone, including regattas, world and European championships, give an active holiday in Garda Trentino a touch of exclusivity. Sailing boats also cavort on Lake Ledro, including at the "OM International Ledro Match Race - World Match Race Tour" event in June. Windsurfing is not neglected either: from 10 - 14 May 2023, Torbole will host the PWA - a stage of the World Windsurfing Tour takes place here. The range of services for holidaymakers is rounded off by water sports schools, rentals and highly efficient rescue services.
The waters of Garda Trentino are home to prestigious ambassadors: Bruno Martini and Nicolò Renna in the Windsurfing and Chiara Benini Floriani and Ruggero Tita in sailing. Ruggero Tita, born in 1992, an Italian Olympic sailor, took part in regattas for the first time at the age of eight. He became Italian champion at the age of 13 and went on to become European champion several times and even world champion in 2018. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he competed in the Nacra 17 catamaran class and won the gold medal with his partner. Chiara Benini Floriani became famous when she became world champion in the Laser 4.7 and female Radial Under 19 class in Gdansk (Poland) in 2018. With their esprit, which is in absolute harmony with the freedom of sailing and windsurfing, the young champions perfectly embody the fascination, dynamism and beauty of Garda Trentino at international level.
