For anyone with a passion for surfing, no ride is too far to get on the board. But what if the perfect surf was less than an hour's drive away and surfable 365 days a year? Sounds too good to be true? Not for the "Wavegarten" team. On an area of approx. 60,000 square metres, a surf park is being created in Stade with an artificially generated, running wave for all surfing enthusiasts in the Hamburg metropolitan region, which is in no way inferior to the natural wave of the open sea.
The wave machine generates waves of up to two metres in height in a pool of around 20,000 square metres, and the shape and size of each one can be adjusted at the touch of a button depending on ability and experience. This means that everyone, from professionals to beginners, children and adults, can ride their very own perfect wave here at home in the north of Germany.
This adventure is complemented by a comprehensive range of catering, a surf shop and a variety of other sports and leisure activities. There is something for everyone in the family and a day full of waves, fun and fresh air is guaranteed.
The brothers Jan and Dirk Podbielski, the initiators of the project, have been able to expand their expertise in the field of project development and realisation over the past ten years with the planning and construction of offshore wind farms and thus bring multi-faceted technical and commercial know-how to the project. A lot has happened since the start of the project in 2016: From the founding of the project company, the location decision, the decision to draw up a development plan, the securing of land through to the start of urban land-use planning and the preparation of initial expert reports - the "Wavegarten" project is making steady progress and is continuing to take shape. The early public participation phase for the development plan in the Hanseatic city of Stade was recently completed.
The steady progress of the project has also convinced surf park manufacturer Wavegarden from Spain to enter into an exclusive partnership. On 31 January 2020, the Podbielski brothers and their SPN Projekt GmbH signed the contract with Wavegarden and are now in the process of joint technical planning with the pioneer and market leader for technologies for surf parks of this kind. Jan and Dirk Podbielski are also pleased to announce their strategic collaboration with the communications agency Island Collective GmbH.
Surfers and best friends Christoph Zingelmann and Florian Laudon, founders and managing directors of Island Collective GmbH, set up their own business together 15 years ago and now successfully run three companies specialising in marketing, communication, events and sustainable retail. In the future, they will support the Surfdeck team with their expertise and their network in European surf sports in marketing and public relations.
The continued support of the city of Stade and STADE Marketing Tourismus GmbH, as well as the shared interest in the further development of regional, ecological and sustainable tourism, give this unique project additional momentum and thus also enable interesting development potential for the regional economy.
and sustainable tourism give this unique project additional impetus and thus also open up interesting development potential for the regional economy.
And so the "Wavegarten" project is taking great strides into the next round. The wave, which will make both long-time surfers and all nature lovers who want to learn to surf happy, is attracting increasing interest from investors, sponsors, partners and water sports enthusiasts throughout Germany.
The "wave garden" is designed as naturally as possible in the open air and offers a surfing experience that will be comparable to riding the sea. The waves, which can take on different shapes and sizes, offer both beginners and experienced surfers a unique sporting and outdoor experience.
