Travel to Hurhgada: Harry Nass Centre closes on 25.9.2026
The board and sail racks are still well stocked. On 25 September 2026, however, the carpets will be rolled up for good in the Harry Nass Centre at the Mercure Hotel in Hurghada. Until then, the centre will remain open. We asked Harry Nass about the reasons and what will happen next.

The centre was popular....
The existing Harry Wet Centre directly on the beach will probably become Egyptian history.

surf: You are leaving Hurghada. What's the reason?

The hotel wants to reorganise the beach as part of the change to a Mövenpick hotel and we were offered a place far away from the water. The possible access to the water is still unclear today. We tried for a year to change the management's mind, without success. In addition, our new centre was then to be significantly reduced in size. We could not accept any of this and so we are closing at the end of our contract at the end of September.

What is happening at the site?

Whether the hotel will find a successor who is prepared to accept these new framework conditions, I at least dare to doubt.

Will the standard of materials and service remain the same until the day of closure?

We will be open as normal until 25 September and then the station will be cleared out the next day and then dismantled.

What are your new plans?

We are currently researching an alternative and are positive about it. If everything works out, we will pull something new out of the quiver in the next 2 months. I can promise one thing: we will then improve. We have also already received so much positive feedback from our regular customers, who all want to follow us to a new location. We are therefore very positive about the future. However, the planned opening will not be before spring 2027.

Harry, thank you very much for the interview!

He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
