The hoses of a pump are somewhat sensitive. A kinked hose should therefore be avoided as far as possible.
You want to get on the water quickly and stuff the pump into the pack sack - that's the obvious thing to do. As a result, the hose inevitably kinks too much at some point behind the connection point and the pump will sooner or later stop working. The more often the hose is kinked during this ordeal, the faster it leaks and the pump usually becomes unusable at the most inopportune moment.
So take a little more time to pack and prolong the pleasure of an intact pump.
