The first race of the season in the Alps Trophy is in the books - the start of what we hope will be a long, action-packed season. Here is the report from tour organiser Gerd Weisner and the results (below)
The 1st round of the SUP Alps TrophyRace Class and Fun Class had over 124 starts across both classes.
The SUP Festival / Race Legend of Oxhad a world-class organisation - St. Gilgen is SUP CITY! Many thanks to Valentin Hödlmoser and his team, but also many thanks to the participants who, despite the rough weather forecast, were rewarded with sunshine every day after rain and wind.
RACE CLASS
And so much in advance, in the long winter preparation time has been trained very diligently. The standard is high and everyone has come together, especially in the upper midfield.
After a challenging 11.2 km course, wind and the occasional wave, a 2-minute time difference decides between 30th and 15th place.
Six Germans, three Austrian paddlers and the Czech champion finished in the top ten. Ole Schwarz took the win ahead of the German sprint champion Peter Weidert and the Austrian champion Christian Taucher.
There was also an international podium in the women's race, with Iva Dundova (CZ) narrowly winning ahead of Marion Seebauer (AT). In the competition for 3rd place, Andrea Kämmerer (GER) came out on top ahead of Susanne Eder Meyer, who surprisingly celebrated her victory in the Legend of Ox Techrace the day before.
