Tips and tricks from the editorial team and manufacturers

In the programme item "Tips", surf magazine editor Manuel Vogel will be sharing his expertise on the Beach Talk stage on frequently asked topics such as jibes, planing, water starts, front loops and much more. In 45 minutes, Manuel will tell you about the most common mistakes and how to avoid them. The daily "main topics" are presented by surf editor Julian Wiemar: Freeride or freerace? What mistakes you should avoid when buying a board. Gliding, heating, tricks - which board makes sense for strong winds. Wing or windsurf foils - the pros and cons. Freeride vs. camber sails - that's how big the differences in performance really are. Afterwards, representatives of the brands will be showing their matching products for the main topics. They will also be presenting their new products on the Beach Talk stage throughout the day.

Racer of the Sea

After last year's great success, Leon Delle and Oliver Tom Schliemann will be organising their regatta at the surf festival for the fourth time. The programme is complemented by the RotS Academy with worldcupper Fabian Wolf, who shares his experience with the participants and has lots of useful tips in store. The event clearly focuses on fun - the competition format is kept simple and therefore beginner-friendly: no material restrictions and a simple downwind slalom course with a common start. Divided into fin and foil categories, there is a suitable discipline for everyone. Thanks to the limited number of participants, the action on the water and on land remains manageable. The pleasant, informal atmosphere of the event will also be emphasised at the joint BBQ on the beach and at a raffle with prizes for every participant. Registration for the event is now open by email at events@1001grad.de. Further information about the Racer of the Sea Academy and the regatta can be found at www.racerofthesea.de

Have you been fascinated by the colourful sails on the water for a long time, but no one has the time or the necessary equipment to teach you how to windsurf? No problem! Since last year, the German Armed Forces have been offering free taster courses in cooperation with the professionals from the Heidkate surf school. You will be taken straight onto the board and even provided with a wetsuit. Learning to surf has never been so easy - and the best thing about it: it won't cost you a cent! You can register for the daily courses directly at the Bundeswehr stand. But be quick! Last year, all courses were fully booked on the first day.

German Freestyle Battles

This is where the best freestyle fans and anyone who wants to become one meet. At the GFB, the riders judge each other's heats. There are no problems with dodgy decisions and the focus is on having fun. The competitions are held directly at the event site. Training and qualifying will take place on Thursday and Friday, while on Saturday the final rounds, commented on by World Cup presenter Ingo Meyer, will be decided directly in front of the festival audience. If there is no wind, a jet ski will bring the finalists up to the necessary speed to perform spectacular manoeuvres. High-performance sport and action are therefore guaranteed on the Saturday of the festival. You can register in advance at germanfreestylebattles.de or directly at the festival.

On Fehmarn, however, the festival partner boot Düsseldorf has much more water surface available. And the team at the trade fair will be using it with expert trainers for free pump-oil courses for beginners and the sporty pump-oil challenge for pros. Parties - play it loud (and quietly)

Photos of the surf festival on the south beach on Fehmarn 2024Photo: Jörn Pollex

First loud, then quiet - different DJs await you in front of the main stage every evening. The melodic house/techno gig by wave worldcup artist Lina Erpenstein on Friday evening is a firm favourite. On the other days there will be a mixture of different styles - we have listened to your wishes. From 11.45 pm it will be quiet, at least for the environment. Then the Silent Disco starts with three channels. The rental headphones are free for beach campers, everyone else pays eight euros.
