Top atmosphere and beaming faces wherever you looked: at the 2nd Xantener Südsee SUP Cup last Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 June 2017, there were not only happy winners on the winners' podium - the participants in the other places also visibly enjoyed the SUP AG four-star event of the year with NRW and Lower Rhine championships at the Xantener Südsee.
"A great atmosphere, Great regatta organisation and top location," enthused even the numerous participants from the Netherlands. In cooperation with the surfing department of the RTG Wesel on behalf of the Kanu-Verband NRW e.V., the Xanten Leisure Centre hosted the Xantener Südsee SUP Cup for the second time, which, in addition to the 2nd Lower Rhine Championships, now also included the NRW State Championships and once again presented the Xantener Nord- und Südsee as a top water sports location in NRW.
The paddling was on both days in the sprint and long distance (12km) disciplines as well as in the amateur and kids' competitions. Many participants, including those who registered spontaneously, were particularly enthusiastic about the regatta and the location at Xanten harbour, which also offered a well-rounded programme on land and for spectators with a SUP and water sports information mile and the Plaza del Mar restaurant. Winner of the NRW Championships Milanka Linde won the women's sprint and long distance races, Viola Hartrott came second and Tina Funke came third. In the men's sprint, Oliver Lynen took first place, followed by Kimo Kersting in second and Matthias Hartrott in third. In the long distance raceFrank Gondek defended his NRW championship title in first place ahead of runner-up Marcin Hokusz and Oliver Lynen in third place. At the Lower Rhine ChampionshipsAfter a successful start at the 1st Xantener Südsee SUP Cup in September 2016, Marcin Hokusz took first place this time after dropping out of the race last year. Oliver Lynen took second placeMichael Ferchert took third place. In the Open Long Distance classification was won by Hannah Krah. The winner completed the 12 km run in 1:25:30 hours. She was followed by Ella Osterholt (2nd place) and Milanka Linde (3rd place). In the men's race, Joep van Bakel was the first to cross the finish line after 1:13:09 hours, followed by Frank Gondek (2nd place) and Wouter Hendrikx (3rd place)
