This year, sponsors from the fields of communication, music and gastronomy took part in the event to support charitable projects, with the donations collected amounting to over 5,000 euros going to the Dibanisa e. V. association, which has been implementing youth development programmes in the fields of sport, nature and nutrition in South Africa since 2010.
Axel Ohm (51), idea generator and organiser of the event: "I am overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and ambition of the teams with which they all competed. The good mix of amateur and professional paddlers made for an exciting race and a great event. Together with the generous donations, the first event can be described as a complete success."
The winner of the relay race was the Easyglider team, sponsored by Mobil Office Communications, followed by the EverSUP and Ratsherrn teams. However, the main prize in the SUP challenge went to Matthias Wolk from RealTVGroup. As a reward for the most spectacular fall, he was given the opportunity to accompany scientists to observe great white sharks near Cape Town, South Africa. The Vodafone flagship store team also attracted particular attention, winning the prize for the best costume (see photo below).
To support the participants, numerous spectators and sports enthusiasts turned up to watch the exciting relay race. The DJ team Chassio provided the musical programme.
About Dibanisa e.V.
Dibanisa works closely with Grootbos Foundation in South Africa and launched a youth development project in the province of Gansbaai in 2010. The aim of this organisation is to show African young people in critical situations a new perspective so that they can build a positive attitude in society through experiencing, doing and understanding. Dibanisa was recognised by the international Beyond Sport Network as one of three outstanding global projects.
About Axel Ohm
For Axel Ohm, the father of two, profession and passion are inseparable. In the 80s and 90s, he dedicated himself to water sports. He surfed in the top ten of the world rankings during the Professional Windsurfing Tours and became German champion several times. Even during his sporting career, he campaigned for the protection of nature and water. Axel Ohm then spent seven years demonstrating his business acumen and organisational talent as Head of Marketing for the West cigarette brand before founding his own consulting company 180 degrees in South Africa. There he had the opportunity to help set up many social and nature development projects for young people. In 2011, Axel Ohm's longing for the north brought him back to Hamburg, where he continues to support programmes in water and environmental protection.
