The 2025 water sports season is in the starting blocks and also offers numerous opportunities to test new equipment. Test events covering a wide range of disciplines take place across Germany from April to October. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider - there is something for every taste and ability. The events make it possible to try out different boards and equipment under real conditions and get advice from experts. Before travelling, you should ideally confirm the exact date with the respective local organiser.

Diverse programme from north to south

The test programme starts in April with events at the Lechtalsperre dam and in Frankfurt. Over the course of the season, the events are spread throughout Germany, from the Baltic coast to the Altmühlsee in Bavaria. The Globetrotter open-air events, which take place in several major cities such as Berlin, Cologne and Dresden, are particularly noteworthy. These urban locations also offer newcomers a low-threshold opportunity to get in touch with water sports.

Focus on trend sports

In addition to classic disciplines such as stand-up paddling (SUP) and windsurfing, other trend sports will take centre stage in 2025. The Foil Festival on Fehmarn in June and the Freewing Camp on Lake Altmühlsee are highlights for anyone interested in wingfoiling. This relatively new discipline, which combines elements of windsurfing and kitesurfing, is becoming increasingly popular. Experts on site explain the technique and give tips on how to get started.

Professional support and security

Special attention is paid to the expert supervision of participants at all events. The VDWS Safety Tool, an insurance policy that can be taken out on site, can provide additional safety. However, the organiser recommends that this is taken out online in advance to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Deputy Editor in Chief surf

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
