"BETTY" - Bettina Kohl, small (151 cm), lively, 52 and stand-up paddle amateur from Hamburg is currently one of the best German SUP surfers in the wave as 3-time "German Vice Champion SUP Wave".
2017her mother took her own life, at the same time Betty qualified for the World Championships: she experienced an extreme emotional rollercoaster on all levels of her life. But she stuck to her motto: "Giving up is not an option". And she wanted to use the strong challenge to create something new and meaningful out of it!
The result in mid-2018 The idea of producing a documentary film together with Hamburg filmmaker Andrea Hausstätter: A motivational film in which the sea should play an essential role - a big "heart project" was born! And Bettina's long-cherished dream came true - she took part in the ISA SUP World Championships in China that same year.
The film "BETTY WOULD GO" wants to encourage people to follow the path of their lives in a positive way - with all its ups and downs. It shows how valuable it is to listen to your own heart and use this special power to achieve your personal goals. The aim is to sensitise viewers to use nature - especially the sea - as a source of strength and to support marine conservation in this way.
The documentation gives an exciting, very personal insight into Bettina's journey and shows what the power of thoughts - the "Power of Mindset" - can achieve. And what it's like to rock Chinese waves as a small powerhouse and the oldest participant in a high-calibre, international women's field!
Ultimately but it's about much more than that. That is why interesting international people were interviewed on these topics. In a special mix of personal stories and specialised knowledge, they provide emotional inspiration and food for thought.
In the process include well-known personalities such as SUP world champions (including Sonni Hönscheid, Casper Steinfath, Fiona Wylde), Kris Primacio (CEO ISTO) on the topic of surf therapy, marine experts & environmental activists (including Frank Otto, the German Ocean Foundation and Mojib Latif as an internationally renowned researcher from Geomar in Kiel) and many more.
Another aspect is that Bettina has also been an ambassador for CLEANWAVE since 2019 - a social movement that campaigns for the reduction of plastic. Cleanwave's message will also be integrated into the film. The founders were interviewed and a joint beach and ocean clean-up event was organised on Mallorca last March.
The film is now in the final stages of post-production. The whole project is an extremely exciting journey for the team, but also an immense feat of strength. The emphasis is on quality and the budget to date has been very low. The fact that the film production has made it this far under these special circumstances is a great story in itself!
This is how But we are also looking for enthusiastic supporters and sponsors who want to "ride the wave" together with the team. There are interesting options for this. Whether on a small or large scale - every contribution is extremely valuable!
The PREMIERE will take place on 6 February 2020 - 8 pm at ZEISE KINO in Hamburg. In the long term, the documentary will be available nationwide and possibly also internationally. The film is 86 minutes long and in English. There will be a version with German subtitles for German-speaking countries.
