Ole Schwarz and Hannah Leni Krah win the SUP Finals 2022

The favourites prevail at the 2022 finals on the City-Spree. The last medal of the day was awarded to the men in stand-up paddling. Ole Schwarz (WSV Blau Weiß Bonn) secured victory ahead of Peter Weidert from SKG Hanau.

"My strength is the approach to the first buoy," said Schwarz in the interview. "Unfortunately, I didn't manage the second turn well, but I really pushed myself in the final sprint."

Earlier, Hannah Leni Krah from Dresden paddled to the gold medal in the women's competition. She beat Susanne Lier from the Thuringian Canoe Association in the A final. Krah thus remains unbeaten after her 2019 title on the City Spree. "I wanted to get round the buoys safely. That's the crucial part of the race," said Krah. "Things went really well again towards the finish, but it was so warm that we treated ourselves to another dip in the Spree." The bronze medal went to Skady Langbein, who beat Anne de Boer in the small final.

The stand-up paddling competitions took place again this year in a new format in contrast to the 2021 version. They were paddled in head-to-head races with two 180° turns. The new format offered spectators more excitement right to the end.

"The new format is technically demanding, varied and guarantees excitement," said SUP department head Steven Bredow, who also paddled the course himself as a participant. "This was definitely a step in the right direction. There aren't that many SUP sprint formats yet, so we will continue to develop in order to offer the spectators great competitions. The sport is still young and we still have lots of interesting ideas."
