The APP World Tour returns to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from 16 to 21 December 2025. The now firmly established event on the Atlantic island will once again bring together many of the world's best SUP surfing athletes to award the world championship titles in the disciplines of performance surfing and longboarding. Champions will be crowned in both the men's and women's categories as well as in the youth category. On-site registration and the official opening ceremony will take place on 15 December, before the competition gets into full swing the following day. The event has been deliberately scheduled during the prime surfing season for this region of the Atlantic to ensure optimal conditions for the athletes.

Established event on the Atlantic island

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has established itself as a permanent fixture on the APP World Tour calendar in recent years. With its location in the deep Atlantic Ocean, the island offers ideal conditions for top-class SUP surfing competitions. Especially in the winter months, the conditions here are reliable with good waves that are ideal for both the performance category and the longboard discipline. The December date falls exactly in this prime season and therefore promises exciting competitions at a high level. The pictures from 2023 (gallery above) speak for themselves. The combination of challenging Atlantic waves and the mild climate of the Canary Islands makes Gran Canaria the perfect venue for this important end-of-season event.

The Gran Canaria Pro-Am takes place at two different locations just a few hundred metres apart. La Cicer serves as the venue for the qualifying rounds, the youth competitions and the longboard SUP component, while the main event takes place at the world-class Point Break El Lloret, where excellent conditions prevail year after year for the Gran Canaria SUP Open. Both venues are located at the western end of the Las Canteras promenade in front of the vibrant city of Las Palmas.

Competition format and participants

The competition starts early in the morning on 16 December and will run over several days, during which the athletes will compete against each other in various rounds. The world's best SUP surfers will compete for the coveted world championship titles in both the performance surfing and longboard categories. The event includes competitions in the men's, women's and youth categories. Athletes from all over the world are expected to compete in the challenging conditions of the Atlantic Ocean to win the world championship titles in the respective disciplines.

In 2024, Taka Inoue from Japan and Luchy Cosoleto from Argentina secured victory in the performance SUP surfing division, while Benoit Carpentier and Kaede Inoue won the 2024 SUP longboarding world titles. In the U21 division, Enrique Perez Serra from Spain and Sakura Inoue from Japan were crowned Junior World Champions in the heart of the beautiful city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
