The Bavarian Canoe Association also appreciates the spacious event site at Chiemseepark in Bernau-Felden with plenty of parking spaces, the race office in Christian Kaufmann's SUP Centre and the spacious beach. A beach with enough width for the spectacular beach start and, in recent years, always sunny, warm autumn weather at its best. No wonder that many participants, including those from abroad, have always pushed the starting field close to a hundred.
Organiser Regatta Surf-Club Chiemsee (RSCC), which has been staging the ninth SUP Marathon since 2010, is delighted with the appreciation shown by the BKV. At the same time, the event, which has been scoring points for the international SUP Alps Trophy for six years, was also awarded the 4STAR rating by the German SUP League, making it the competition with the third-highest rating after the SUP World Cup Scharbeutz (6STAR) and the German SUP Championship Fehmarn (5STAR).
The approximately 12-kilometre-long race is particularly fascinating - it starts in Felden, goes around Herrenchiemsee and then between Kraut Island and Fraueninsel back to the finish - in the southern background, the mountains with the famous Kampenwand provide a magnificent backdrop.
In 2019, a short distance (only on iSUP boards) of around 4 kilometres will also be offered for beginners and paddlers for whom the 12 kilometres are too long, where the youth will also be paddling for the championship title.
Of course, before the big boys take their turn, the youngsters are allowed on the water first. In the short Kids Race for the three age groups U10, U12 and U14 on the approximately 200 metre long sprint course around two buoys and the championship race for pupils A/B over two kilometres. As always, all participants will receive plaques and certificates.
After the award ceremony, where the Bavarian champions will receive trophies and BKV trophies, the event will conclude in style in the neighbouring Sallers Badehaus, where participants and spectators will also find appropriate catering with a view of the lake on the terrace during the day.
Various SUP brands such as Indiana SUP, I-99, JP-Australia, RRD, SIC and Starboard will once again be presenting their latest equipment for the 2020 season on the spacious grounds at Chiemseepark and also making it available for free testing, just two weeks before the big PaddleExpo trade fair (4-6 October) in Nuremberg.
As always with the SUP Alps Trophy, there is a discount on the entry fee for pre-registration by 18 September. Info/registration: sup-alps-trophy.com
