"This was the first SUP Alps Trophy race that felt like a real winter cup. With 6-7° rain and some wind, the 21° Pilsensee was a good contrast," wrote the organisers after the races at Pilsensee. As the last Trophy event before the finale at Wolfgangsee at the end of September, many starters wanted to collect points for the annual ranking. Among them was former champion Normen Weber, who wanted to pose a threat to the leading duo of Ole Schwarz and Manuel Lauble.
The long-distance race was around 9.4 kilometres in total, with increasing winds. "It was 1.7 kilometres from the start to the first buoy, and the field lined up quickly at the beginning. Shortly after the start, Ole and Manuel were ahead of Peter Weidert, Normen, Marlon Daskiran, Hermann Husslein, Gerd Weisner, Justin Harthmann and Arnd Dünzinger." Shortly afterwards, Hermann Husslein overtook Marlon Daskiran and the field spread out further and further. After the first lap, Peter Weidert had to pay tribute to the headwind and lost touch with the leading trio. Ole and Manuel took it in turns to lead the field, but no one was able to pull away by more than one or two board lengths.
Normen Weber then set an incredible pace over the final 1.7 kilometres and won the race by a clear margin. Manuel Lauble remained in second place on the long home straight and Ole Schwarz came third. "There was also a lot of good competition behind them on the course, both on their own and in small groups. It was good to see again how inclusive the long-distance races are," said the organisers happily. "Almost 40 years of age difference and nobody wants to give in!"
