The German Surfing Association (DWV) and o2 SURFTOWN MUC present the German Championships. In 1996, the first German Surfing Championships organised by the DWV took place on the French Atlantic coast in Cap de l'Homy. At the time, it was hard to imagine that this competition would ever come to Germany. Now, 28 years later, German surfing is making history: for the first time, the championships are being held on German soil and with German waves.
From 11 to 13 October 2024, the o2 SURFTOWN MUC will be the venue for a major event. The decision by the German Surfing Association (DWV) to organise the German Championships near Munich shows the steady development of surfing. Over 100 of Germany's best surfers will be competing for the title for the first time on local waves in Germany's first and Europe's largest surf park.
Michael Zirlewagen, President of the German Surfing Association, commented on the German Championships being held on home soil for the first time: "It is a world first that we have the opportunity to present three of our sports - adaptive surfing, stand up paddling (SUP) and surfing - together in one surf park. Our aim is to capitalise on the momentum of the renewed qualification for the Olympic Games and seize the new opportunities in Hallbergmoos near Munich 2024 to further promote interest in surfing in Germany."
The o2 SURFTOWN MUC is characterised by its globally unique wave technology, which offers ideal conditions for prestigious competitions. The ability to create and precisely control waves at the touch of a button eliminates the usual one-week wait for optimal conditions. This allows the competition to be planned perfectly and ensures optimal conditions from 11 to 13 October 2024.
Michael Mohr, Chief Surfing Officer at o2 SURFTOWN MUC, is delighted: "We are delighted that the DWV will be organising the 2024 German Championships here. With this event, we not only want to set an example for inclusion, but also promote young talent. Having the German surfing elite, including three Olympians, as guests in Hallbergmoos and being able to experience the championship up close will certainly inspire and motivate the kids."
The participants include outstanding athletes such as Tim Elter and Camilla Kemp (Paris 2024) and Leon Glatzer (Tokyo 2020), whose presence emphasises the high quality of the competition.
The event will not only be a sporting highlight - visitors can enjoy an extensive programme that includes music, culinary delights, parties and surfing action.
