The Foil Festival on Fehmarn is expanding its programme with an exciting new offer for foil enthusiasts. At the Downwind Experience with Kai-Nicolas Steimer, participants have the opportunity to foil on the open Baltic Sea with boats and Zodiacs or to gain their first experience. The Foil Festival on the south beach on Fehmarn runs this year from 6 to 9 June (Whitsun) and once again offers the opportunity to test new equipment, celebrate and take part in contests.
The Downwind Experience is aimed at almost all skill levels. In the taster course, beginners can learn the basics of paddle up, i.e. paddling onto the foil, and make their first attempts at flying. They are supported by a Zodiac boat, which creates a safe wave for practising. Advanced foilers have the chance to hone their skills during guided downwind sessions. The accompanying boat "Tümmler" takes participants out onto the open water, where they can paddle a safe line to the shore and improve their technique and skills.
The safety of the participants is the top priority at the Downwind Experience. Peer-Ole Köhnen, an experienced safety expert in the water sports sector, accompanies the sessions with his crew on a RIB. His many years of experience in securing renowned events such as the Windsurf World Cup on Sylt guarantee the highest safety standards. Captain Frederik Otten steers the "Tümmler" and contributes his in-depth knowledge of the local waters and weather conditions.
A special highlight of the Downwind Experience is the opportunity to test high-quality equipment from various brands. Thanks to the support of foilin. and other partners, participants have access to suitable equipment for the course duration of up to three hours. The programme is rounded off by community evenings where beginners and experienced foilers can exchange ideas, make new contacts and learn from the pioneers of the scene.
