The 2021 world record attempt in SUP yoga attracted 131 stand-up paddlers.
Major world record attempt on Lake Constance on 21 September 2022, which would be a world record on the SUP. Over 300 people doing yoga on a stand-up board at the same time: that is the goal of Raphaela Schäufele from the Lake Constance Yoga Festival and the co-initiators of the Lake Constance Surf School in Überlingen.

World record on the SUP: Yoga

Because if they manage to do this, it will mean WORLD RECORD. "It would be incredibly special to beat this world record on the SUP in Germany, especially on Lake Constance," comments initiator Raphaela Schäufele on her ambitions and emphasises her "huge anticipation" for the event on 11 September in Überlingen. There is also a dignified setting, as she is organising the Lake Constance Yoga Festival from 9 to 11 September. The world record attempt is set to be a crowning finale and one of the absolute highlights. Technically, the attempt is not exactly undemanding: the Lake Constance Shipping Office had to approve the event in advance, various board manufacturers have been asked to provide boards, the local DLRG organisation is on board and, last but not least, the weather has to at least play along to some extent. "Of course, we can't go out during storms," explains surf school operator Florian Hager, but at the beginning of September in particular, the conditions are "very often almost perfect".

Why this world record? "Stand up paddling is not one of the biggest sports trends of recent years for nothing. The tranquillity of gliding across the water in a standing position is incredible and everyone should give it a try. But combining this with yoga poses is one of the most beautiful things you can imagine," explains Raphaela, adding "maybe we can give even more people access to this great pleasure through this spectacular event?".

There is no financial incentive. On the contrary: the event is supported by the organisers, and sponsorship from the sustainable food brand followfood ensures that there is even money for an environmental protection project: the young sustainability company from Lake Constance has pledged a donation of EUR 10 per participant to the Ocean Clean Up Project. This is not the only reason why they hope to break the record this year, after more than 200 stand-up paddlers came together in a first event organised at short notice in 2021. Incidentally, neither basic stand-up paddling nor yoga skills are required. Anyone who can swim and would like to take part in a world record on the SUP is welcome to join in. Either from the water with your own SUP in front of the Ostbad in Überlingen, or from 15:00 directly to the Bodensee surf school in Überlingen / Ostbad.

He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
