Who are you and where can you be found?
We are Hamburg's first and now only windsurfing and wingfoil school, and we are also one of the oldest surf shops in northern Germany, although not under this name, but always at this location.
When was your shop founded, what have been important milestones since then?
The shop was founded in 1981 under the name Baltic Kölln Surfschule. After the insolvency of Baltic Kölln, the shop was then called Windsurfing Hamburg from 1997. In 2023, I took over from the founder Markus von Melle and gave the shop the name weAre surfshop.
What sports do you have in your programme?
We have everything you need for windsurfing, wakeboarding, kiting, wingsurfing and SUP!
Approximately how many boards, sails and wings do you have in stock?
There are around 150 boards and 200 sails on site.
Can I also order online from you?
Yes of course, we are currently building a new online shop that will be launched soon!
Do you have special events like camps, flea markets, parties or something like that?
On 19 July 2025, we will be holding our Summer Set 2025, an outdoor festival with overnight accommodation, lots of music, cool drinks, test campaigns, bouncy castle, tombola, an airbrush tattoo artist and much more! Parties are also organised from time to time. You can also hire our dream location here at Oortkatensee for your own parties, such as weddings or birthdays!
What makes you special?
We are authentic, personable, customer-orientated, love what we do and we are very close to our customers. Thanks to our location right on the water, we have many options and can react quickly, e.g. last year we quickly built a pump-oil table within days!

Your most bizarre/unusual experience in the shop?
It's difficult to say, but "swimming exercises" in a wetsuit on the shop floor are always a highlight. One customer actually turned up to our "surfer party" in a wetsuit because he thought it was a must.
What is your impression of the market and the attitude of customers?
It's a very difficult topic, I think that manufacturers are irritating and confusing customers with their very high and rapidly changing range. In addition, the prices can no longer be maintained and enforced because discontinued products are flushed onto the market far too early, or the new models for the following year are already available in the middle of the year. Added to this is the somewhat lower purchasing power, which is a pity but understandable. At some point, a better time will come and we will expand our range until then.
