Freiburg gets an artificial wave! The citywave, like here in Regensburg, should offer good conditions for all levels and disciplines!
Freiburg's surf scene can look forward to a nine metre wide artificial wave. The citywave Freiburg opens on 3 May, followed by a big opening party on 17 May. There are also other attractions with surfing flair on the "irie surf" site!

Surfing in the centre of the city will become a reality in Freiburg from May. On 3 May, the first citywave will open in Freiburg, which should inspire both surf cracks and newcomers. With a width of nine metres and a smooth wave surface, the facility should offer ideal conditions for beginners and advanced surfers, according to the operators. The big opening party will follow on 17 May.

The endless wave can be customised in seconds at the touch of a button and adjusted in size, shape and water volume, according to a press release. The patented deep-water technology enables the use of surfboards with fins. In addition to surfing, the citywave is also suitable for a variety of other water sports such as stand-up paddling, longboarding and bodyboarding. According to the developers, there are already 21 citywave locations worldwide in the USA, Central and Northern Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia and Japan, offering an unrivalled surfing experience.

Central location and regional importance

The citywave in Freiburg in the 3-Länder-Eck is located at the central location of "irie surf" - in the immediate vicinity of Freiburg's exhibition centre, the university and the Europa-Park stadium. Rainer Klimaschewski, CEO and founder of the Munich-based company citywave, emphasises the importance of the location: "We are delighted to be opening our next location worldwide with citywave Freiburg. The location at the foot of the Black Forest near the French border will not only inspire the people of Freiburg, but also attract guests from the entire region."

In addition to the surf wave, the irie surf site, which is due to open in April, offers a wide range of leisure activities. Visitors can look forward to events such as surf contests and concerts. Food trucks will provide refreshments, while a surf café invites visitors to relax. Mario Gerlach, founder of irie surf, shares his enthusiasm: "irie surf is looking forward to bringing surf culture to Freiburg together with citywave technology. In addition to citywave as a technology partner, we are also working with regional partners to create a unique experience and enrich Germany's sports and leisure landscape."

Opening hours and prices of the citywave Freiburg

The citywave Freiburg opens its doors in May. Surf slots can be booked in small groups of 6 to 12 people and cost between 44 and 55 euros per person. For regular visitors, the 5, 10, 25 and 50 tickets are worthwhile, offering discounts of up to 25% on the individual price.
