Lübeck will be the venue for a new stand-up paddling event on 19 July 2025: the Sieben Türme SUP Race, or 7TSUP for short, will celebrate its premiere as part of Travemünde Week. Initiator and main organiser Ralf Schulte, owner of The Newport Marina & Restaurants, is bringing water sports directly to the impressive backdrop of Lübeck's old town with this event. The event promises to inspire both ambitious professionals and recreational athletes with exciting challenges and at the same time make it possible to experience the historic city skyline from the water. Versatile racing programme
The 7TSUPRace offers two different course lengths to appeal to different target groups. For leisure paddlers, there is the "Fun Explore" over a distance of around 4.5 kilometres. Participants can complete the circuit once and enjoy the unique Old Town scenery from the water. Ambitious paddlers from juniors to the Masters age group (over 50), on the other hand, compete in the "Long Distance" race over around nine kilometres (Invitation to tender here), in which the circuit has to be completed twice. The starting shot for both races is fired together at The Newport marina, which should make for a spectacular sight. From there, the route leads past prominent landmarks such as the Music and Congress Hall and the Holsten Gate. The route continues along the Obertrave into the city moat, which leads the paddlers back to the beach parlour on the northern Wall peninsula and finally to the finish line at the marina. This route allows participants to experience the city from a completely new perspective and at the same time offers spectators along the route the best viewing opportunities.
Attractive supporting programme
In addition to the competitions, visitors can look forward to a varied supporting programme on the event site at The Newport. Renowned brands such as Starboard and Sunova will be on site to offer SUP equipment tests and professional advice. This gives interested parties the opportunity to find out about the latest developments in SUP sport and test equipment. Participants in the long-distance race can win attractive prizes. A total of 2,000 euros will be paid out, with the winners being rewarded with 500 euros each. There is also a special incentive for participants in the Fun Explore: a FINNLINES "mini-cruise" from Travemünde to Helsinki for two adults and two children will be raffled off. After the award ceremony, the day will be rounded off with a barbecue at The Newport. This is included in the entry fee and offers all participants the opportunity to review the day's experiences in a relaxed atmosphere and exchange ideas with other paddlers.
Spectator-friendly event
The 7TSUP Race is not only attractive for the active participants, but also for spectators. There are numerous points along the route from which the race can be watched. The bridges at the Music and Congress Hall, the Holstentor and the Obertrave in particular offer ideal vantage points from which to cheer on the paddlers and experience the competition up close. This spectator-friendliness makes the event an experience for the whole city.
