The Augsburg ice channel was built for the 1972 Olympic Games. The Eiskanal was the world's first artificial canoe slalom stadium. The Eiskanal Olympic course has been a model for the design of new slalom courses for decades. The canal is fed by Lech water, which branches off above the high outlet. The ice channel offers good training opportunities at any water level thanks to the barrages.
