Tensioning straps have a clamp on one side. At least that was the case until now. The "Dual CamJam Tie Down has a freely movable double clamp, which enables particularly fast, secure lashing in certain situations. We have tested the part.

There are plenty of tensioning straps available and - apart from the straps with ratchet levers, which are particularly suitable for destroying delicate boards - they all work in a similar way. The buckle is sewn onto one side, the strap is passed twice over the board and around both roof rails and tensioned.

The tensioning system from Nite Ize is different: one end of the strap is designed as an approximately 20 cm long strap loop with which the strap can be securely fastened to roof racks or lashing eyes. The clamp is designed as a double clamp. This means that one clamping roller can be positioned freely and firmly on the belt and the free end of the belt can be securely tensioned with the other clamping roller. The strap is therefore only guided once over the board, the clamp is positioned appropriately and the remaining end of the strap goes once around the roof rack, back through the clamp, lash it down, done.

The tightly woven webbing looks very solid, as does the nickel-plated zinc alloy clamp. The load capacity is stated as 181 kilos, the breaking load as 544 kilos. Weight: 250 grams (at 12'' length).

Advantages:

Prices: 27.95 Euro (12'' long); 34.95 Euro (18'' long); 19.95 Euro (only the double clamp without strap, suitable for most straps up to 25.4 mm wide)

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
