The Californian helmet manufacturer Hyda Helmets, formerly active under the name Simba Surf Helmets, is now also offering its models in Europe. The helmets, which specialise in water sports, will be available exclusively through the distributor Tekkno Trading Project (TTP) in the European Union. The product line comprises three different models, which are characterised by their flow-optimised design, effective protection and optimum fit. "More and more water sports enthusiasts are choosing to wear helmets," says the brand about its move across the Atlantic. "The numbers are rising steadily in all water sports disciplines!"
"We are excited to announce Hyda's entry into the European market through our new partnership with Tekkno Trading Project," said Greg Keeling, Vice President Market Development at Hyda. "With their proven expertise in watersports distribution, Hyda helmets will soon be available at leading watersports retailers across the EU. This marks an important step forward in our mission to make purpose-driven protection available to water sports enthusiasts everywhere," Keeling said in a statement.
When developing its helmets, Hyda says it places particular emphasis on three key aspects: a streamlined, hydrodynamic design, reliable protection and an optimum fit. The choice of materials and technologies used are therefore aimed at minimising water resistance, effectively distributing impact energy and ensuring a secure fit even in heavy swell. All models are certified in accordance with the European standard EN 1385 for water sports. The product line covers various price segments and application scenarios - from ambitious professionals to safety-conscious beginners.
The Coanda Fusion is positioned as a high-end model in the Hyda portfolio and is aimed at demanding surfers who do not want to compromise. The name is derived from the Coanda effect, a physical principle that is used for the hydrodynamic flow control of the helmet. The technical highlights include the so-called "Energy Reduction Technology", which is equipped with soft polymer padding to protect against both linear and rotational impact forces. The design prevents water from collecting in the helmet. The Instafit adjustment zones ensure an optimum fit, while a magnetic chin strap (FIDLOCK) ensures secure fastening even in demanding conditions.
The Coanda Core shares the shell geometry with the premium Fusion model, but is available at a lower price. It offers reliable protection against contact with the board, fins, reefs or the bottom of wave pools and other typical surfing hazards. The eponymous Coanda effect is also used here to optimise the flow characteristics. The helmet is lightweight and has a quick drainage system. It is primarily aimed at beginners and advanced surfers or price-conscious surfers who are looking for solid protection without all the premium extras.
The Simba Sentinel completes the current Hyda product line. It is characterised by its particularly low weight of just 372 grams, which according to the manufacturer makes it one of the lightest surf helmets on the market. Despite its minimalist design, it is said to offer a high level of impact protection with optimum hydrodynamic performance. The technically advanced design has been specially developed to meet the safety needs of surfers and water sports enthusiasts.
