Starboard’s TallTwin replaces the traditional 2+1 fin configuration with a twin-fin setup, thereby combining two different surfing styles in a single board. According to Starboard, the longer outline makes it easier to trim and move forward, whilst the twin-fin tail allows for faster acceleration and freer movement across the wave face.
According to the manufacturer, the design is aimed at intermediate and advanced SUP surfers who are looking for more speed and manoeuvrability without compromising on glide and stability when riding the nose. The board is also positioned as a second board for surfers who wish to expand their quiver depending on conditions and riding style. At the 2025 Triple Crown contest in Bali, the Starboard team won three gold medals with the TallTwin.
The Starboard TallTwin combines the length and nose outline typical of a longboard with a twin-fin-inspired tail. This makes the tail narrower behind the fins, which is designed to enable quicker changes of direction and more responsive turning. According to the manufacturer, the central channel in the hull generates lift and speed, whilst also providing directional stability, thereby replacing the centre fin. The Twinser fin setup uses two large side fins, which reduce drag for higher top speed, offer strong grip and enable controlled tail release through turns. Optionally, a Centre Nubster can be fitted – a small centre fin that can provide additional grip and stability for larger waves, heavier riders or greater control when turning and nose-riding.
Starboard offers the TallTwin in four sizes ranging from 9’0” to 9’8”, as well as two construction types. The premium Carbon Reflex construction is available for all sizes, whilst XTEC Carbon is used only for the two middle sizes. The Carbon Reflex boards feature FCSII boxes, whilst the XTEC Carbon version is fitted with classic surf boxes. The Carbon Reflex models also come with carbon fins, whereas the XTEC Carbon boards are supplied with Bio Resin Green fins.
