The Indiana Touring S is well suited for intermediate paddlers. It conveys safety and is still easy to paddle.

The Indiana takes the prize from the test team for the most elegantly shaped front section. At 29 inches, it is already nice and slim, but with the only subtly narrow stern, it still offers a good level of stability for its overall width. For experienced paddlers between around 65 and 85 kilos, this is sufficient in all conditions and the fun of travelling is not neglected either. It cuts through the water like a sleek yacht - perhaps the design also plays a part in this - is easy to paddle and makes good progress.

Gimmicks are kept to a minimum, there is a large, firm pad, two generous nets and a particularly thick, robust rail. This makes the board comparatively light in weight. The fin box is split for easier packing, the fin is large and set at an angle to the rear for less draft and yet good directional stability. The solid and very spacious roller backpack has a practical shoulder strap for the board. The Indiana is stiff and direct in the water, turns "normally" and is wide enough at the back and the pad is long enough for the pivot turn.

Conclusion on the Indiana Touring S 12'6" x 29":

For many "intermediate" and "moderately experienced" paddlers, the Indiana offers a very successful mix of fast paddling and the necessary safety. The whole thing is very elegantly packaged.

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
