Freshly presented at the Paddelexpo in Nuremberg, we were able to test the Mana Air 9'10'' from Naish before the onset of winter in the wild waters of the Alps (upper Isar, upper Lech). Although the Mana Air is not explicitly designed for pure whitewater use, its robust construction and outline (3 metres x 86.4 cm x 15.2 cm) seemed well suited for sporty river use. However, compared to the pure whitewater models from JP (Rivair) or Starboard (Astro Stream), the Naish Allrounder lacks a waist. In comparison: the Rivair from JP measures 89 cm, the Stream from Starboard a whopping 91.4 cm. The Corran Combat is also a lot wider and shorter than the Naish: 91cm wide and 282cm long. Should that bother the whitewater rider in practice?
Naish Mana Air in action: The yellow flounder immediately rocks with its agile riding behaviour. Every small eddy can be approached quickly - the wavy scoop rocker line supports the agile behaviour. In calm, flowing water, you are extremely stable on the plank. The rigidity is exemplary. In turbulent choppy water and on technically demanding passages and traverses against the current, you notice the lack of width. In the standing area, the feet are immediately washed out and the side rails are sensitive to the top water. Experienced pilots with less weight can easily compensate for this with the right technique. Whitewater beginners weighing 80 kilos or more will struggle to keep their balance in rough rivers. However, experts will find the Naish-Nalu to be an excellent partner, especially in choppy waters, which can also be tempted into skilful wave rides.
ConclusionA wave all-rounder that also feels at home on technically demanding rivers. A whitewater tip for light pilots or experts in blocked rivers. With the centre fin, the Naish is also a good choice for beginners in flat water and small waves.
