Black Project is launching a completely new vario closure with groove guide. The paddles have already performed excellently in all SUP magazine tests and are now said to be even better. Here's a first impression of the new adjustment system, which will replace the old version with a Vario tube flattened on one side.

Black Project has developed a new ergonomic adjustment system called FUSION with slick rail technology. According to Black Project founder Chris Black, the new, innovative system sets new standards for adjustable paddles and brings revolutionary technology and higher performance to the market. The FUSION ergonomic adjustment system is the first of its kind to be developed specifically for SUP paddles.

Designer Chris Freeman (here in the detailed SUP magazine interview) highlights six key design elements that would redefine adjustable paddles:

  1. Ergonomic adaptabilityUsers should be able to customise their paddle to ensure maximum comfort.
  2. Slick Rail TechnologyThis ensures smooth and precise adjustment of the length.
  3. Lightweight constructionThe use of modern materials reduces weight without compromising stability.
  4. Hydrodynamic designThe shape of the paddle minimises resistance in the water and improves the efficiency of each stroke.
  5. LongevityHigh-quality workmanship ensures that the paddle can withstand intensive use.
  6. Easy handlingThanks to intuitive mechanisms, every user can quickly find their ideal setting.

The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
