Experienced stand-up paddlers are drawn to the almost unspoilt, turquoise Isar mountain river for a royal nature experience. The adventure begins in the wild Karwendel mountains in Tyrol. The Karwendel section is only for experienced paddlers (even if the passages are not blocked). However, they can enjoy the supreme discipline of white water to the full. The section from Krün to Sylvensteinsee is suitable for whitewater beginners and the scenery is unsurpassable. Unfortunately, there is often not enough water here. From the 1920s, the upper Isar was channelled underground and above ground into the Walchensee to generate electricity. Later, the Sylvenstein dam was built. Fortunately, since 1994, a minimum amount of water has had to remain in the original course of the river from the Krün weir. The Isar from Sylvensteinsee to Bad Tölz, but also in the Pupplinger Au area to Munich, no longer winds its way through spectacular Alpine valleys, but still retains its original whitewater character.
