Quiet bays, picturesque vineyards, apricot trees in full bloom, side arms of the Danube and unspoilt floodplain landscapes and, if you're lucky, perhaps even the longest wave in Austria - the Wachau on the Danube in Lower Austria, around 80 kilometres west of Vienna, offers all this and more. The Wachau wine and fruit-growing region is a 30-kilometre-long river landscape between Krems and Melk. The tours are ideal for canoeists and stand-up paddlers, and the water is even suitable for swimming in summer. Gregor Wimmer runs a canoe and SUP centre in Oberloiben on the Danube and offers guided SUP tours as well as rental and training. Travelling from Salzburg in the direction of Vienna to Krems.
