On the south-eastern border with Austria, the Julian Alps tower up to almost 3,000 metres. Hidden behind these mountains in the far north-west of Slovenia lies the Soca in the Triglav National Park. For paddlers, the Soca is no longer a secret because of its beauty: crystal-clear, turquoise-coloured water, snow-white rocks, lush mountain greenery, southern flair and plenty of water all year round make the Soca a true whitewater paradise for all skill levels.
Over the millennia, the Soca has carved breathtaking gorges and ravines through the wildly jagged limestone and karst rock. The special location of the alpine river (the valley is open to the south towards the Mediterranean) means that the climate is also very mild in spring and autumn. The centre of whitewater activities is the village of Bovec. The river offers highly demanding sections for kayakers, which are not advisable for stand-up paddlers - the easy kayak tours are challenging enough for stand-up paddlers.
Tour Cezsoca to Srpenica: A popular beginner's stretch from the Cezsoca bridge over the Log Cezsoski bridge to Srpenica. In this section, the river runs in a very wide valley and riverbed. Approach:The quickest way to reach the Soca is via Villach in Austria, then keep heading towards the Predil Pass. Camping:One tip is the Vodenca campsite near Bovec ( www.campingsoca.com ).
