Skidding falls can be dangerous if you don't think about it beforehand. For example, you should never let go of the boom if you are still attached to the harness. If you fall into the shallows, you must be careful never to jump into the water with your legs, but to land flat on the water.

Skidding fall

In general, the following applies when falling without being hooked into the harness: When travelling in a normal straight line or when jumping, always push off from the material so that you do not injure yourself! Put your hands and feet on and keep your hands above your head to protect yourself from a sail that might flip over. It also makes sense to stay under water for a short moment to avoid being hit by your own equipment. Basic rule for falls with a harness attached: no matter what happens, hold on to the boom!

Fall into the shallows

Falling into the shallows can be dangerous as you never know how shallow it is and what the ground looks like (stones, shells?). It is therefore important that you never land with your legs stretched out in front of you. Instead, you should try to fall backwards with your arms and legs stretched out and your back straight. This will help you to slow down on the water as quickly as possible and avoid contact with the ground.
