Ever since the first fully foiled tacks on a windsurfer started to circulate on social media a few months ago, there has only been one goal in the pro circuit: to learn the foil tack as quickly as possible, because this manoeuvre - there is a general consensus - is a real "game changer" in every race.
Whilst foil jibes have long been part of everyday life for many amateur surfers, the foil turn has always been considered impossible. And even the pros seemed to have rested on this certainty for a while. But ever since the young Australian Harry Joyner managed this move for the first time in spring 2022, there have been no more excuses in the foil scene - and even seasoned pros like Germany's top rider Nico Prien have had to get out of their comfort zone again.
The training day was accompanied by a cameraman - who, like the protagonist, needed plenty of stamina. But see for yourself:

Manuel Vogel, born in 1981, lives in Kiel and learned to windsurf at the age of six at his father's surf school. In 1997, he completed his training as a windsurfing instructor and worked for over 15 years as a windsurfing instructor in various centers, at Kiel University sports and in the coaching team of the “Young Guns” freestyle camps. He has been part of the surf test team since 2003. After completing his teaching degree in 2013, he followed his heart and started as editor of surf magazine for the test and riding technique sections. Since 2021, he has also been active in wingfoiling - mainly at his home spots on the Baltic Sea or in the waves of Denmark.
