What was that again? Windward is downwind and leeward is with the wind? That's right! But at the latest when starting from the basic position, you frantically lump all the terms together. Images play in your head like: "Sail to the bow and then close-hauled. Er, or was that called fieren?" You stumble over your mental confusion and fall into the water - the next brainwashing, so to speak. Stop, that's not necessary. Summer is here, the water is warm and here are some helpful tricks for career advancement for all those who want to refresh and expand their basic knowledge from last year's beginners' course.
Getting onto the board is the first step. And with a trick in shallow water, you no longer have to struggle onto the board on your hands and knees. You can skilfully use the direct ascent technique. The beach start before the beach start. And when retrieving the sail, many people also forget the importance of the T-technique, which means that the mast and the board always (!) form a T when being pulled. This ensures that you don't lose your balance, the board turns into the perfect starting position (90 degrees to the wind = half wind course) and the "rig upwind" technique can be mastered. For steering, the sail planing technique or windscreen wiper technique applies. The correct "moves" are a guarantee for a successful surfing career and, above all, for fun on the water.
