It always happens when you least need it - the surf session was good and of course longer than planned, at home the important exam date, the impatient girlfriend or a screaming toddler are waiting. And now you're standing on the beach and you can't get your fanny halves apart. Delays were not planned, nor was leaving the functioning mast on the beach or taping it to the roof. The part has to come apart! But how?
Because everyone has had this problem at some point, every windsurfer has their own theory on how to successfully release jammed masts. We have compiled the best tricks for you in the gallery above, also based on our own painful experiences. There is no "THE" method. Sometimes one works, sometimes the other. All the better if you have a few ideas in mind.
Another method was sent to us by surf reader Tom Bock: "After all attempts to separate the mast parts had failed, we filled the lower part with ice cubes (from the campsite bar) and water - after five minutes the parts were really easy to separate (at least in midsummer)."
