While the sport of windsurfing is slowly approaching 60, the first windsurfing clubs in Germany are celebrating their 50th anniversary. The lavish anniversary celebration of the Windsurfing Club Starnberger See showed that neither the sport nor the pioneers are really getting old.

Germany's second oldest surf club hosted its 50th anniversary celebrations in mid-July at the Landhotel Huber in Ambach on Lake Starnberg - in perfect weather. Four of the 24 founders (Ernstfried Prade, Yola Bichler, Dr Michael Buddeberg and Hubert Mattes) along with the members and guests of honour enjoyed the extensive programme of speeches, tributes, music, a beamer show about 50 years of club history and the traditional "Bayern-Pokal" regatta, as well as a film of the 1975 World Windsurfing Championships in Bendor, where some of the members competed.

BSV President Sibylle Merk and Walter Moser from the State Sports Association (BLSV) honoured the achievements of the WCST and presented great gifts and donations for the club's work. The President of the German Sailing Association (DSV), Mona Küppers, also took the opportunity to honour the two club chairmen Lothar Wittmann (1st) and Andrea Meyer (2nd) from afar with a large certificate. In a video message, 42-time professional world champion Björn Dunkerbeck also wished the club a happy birthday. WCST good luck for the next 50 years.

Andreas was born in 1962 and grew up in Osnabrück. He became passionate about windsurfing as early as 1974, when he learned to tack and jibe at one of the first surf schools on the Baltic Sea. Lake Dümmer became the favorite playground of his youth for him and his friends. In 1988, he joined Surf Magazin as a tester and later editor and was lucky enough to be able to turn his passion into a career. Andreas has been responsible for the magazine's content as editor-in-chief since 2002. His favorite spots are those on the Danish North Sea and Baltic coasts.
