Following the cancellation of the VDS Speed and WOTS events, the ProAm Windsurf Cup planned for the coming weekend at Lake Dümmer has now also been affected. The current weather forecasts promise a maximum of ten knots of wind, which effectively amounts to only five to seven knots in an easterly direction. According to the organisers, this is not enough for fair competitions.
In consultation with the German Windsurfing Association (GWA), they have decided with a heavy heart to cancel the regatta. The effort involved in organising the event on site and the long journeys made by some of the participants are disproportionate to the expected conditions. "We regret the cancellation of the ProAm Dümmer See. However, given the poor wind forecast, this is the only sensible decision," reads the press release.
The organisers emphasise that the ProAm Windsurf Cups can react more flexibly to such situations due to their compact format. In contrast to larger events with an extensive supporting programme, these regattas are easier to cancel or postpone if necessary. This makes it possible to react to unfavourable weather conditions at short notice and avoid unnecessary costs.
The German Windsurfing Association is now examining whether and how a replacement regatta can be realised. The aim is to provide windsurfers with a sufficient number of ranking regattas in the 2025 season. The registration option for the ProAm Windsurf Cup Dümmer has been closed and all participants who have already registered will be informed of the cancellation.
Despite the current disappointment, the Windsurfing Club Dümmer See and the GWA are optimistic about the future. A new attempt is already planned for next year. Lake Dümmer generally promises excellent conditions for windsurfers, especially in westerly winds. The WSCD is continuing its commitment and will continue to offer a training programme for young people as well as regular events. A date for 2026 will be announced as soon as it has been finalised.
