When a person is diagnosed with blood cancer, the initial shock is profound! But in many cases, diseases of the haematopoietic system can be treated with a stem cell transplant. For over 30 years, DKMS has made it its mission to help blood cancer patients. The non-profit organisation will be a charity partner at the Mercedes-Benz Surf Festival on all days of the event surrounding World Blood Cancer Day on 28 May. You can register with DKMS directly at the festival site. Maybe it's you who will soon be able to give a seriously ill person the hope of a new lease of life?

Blood cancer can affect anyone: Every 12 minutes, someone in Germany is diagnosed with this devastating disease, and every 27 seconds worldwide. The disease is still the most common cause of cancer-related deaths in children. But there is hope: a stem cell donation can give many sufferers a second chance at life. Like Anja, a windsurfer from northern Germany. More than two years ago, the 33-year-old was diagnosed with leukaemia. Following a stem cell transplant, she is now on the road to recovery and is looking forward to getting back on the water with her board soon. Her appeal is clear: "Anyone who can register should do so and perhaps save someone's life with their stem cell donation!" Anja will tell you about her story at the surf festival.

REGISTER & HELP DEFEAT BLOOD CANCER

DKMS will be taking part in the Mercedes-Benz Surf Festival from 26 to 29 May on the south beach on Fehmarn. As part of the festival week, the organisation is also organising "World Blood Cancer Day" (WBCD) on 28 May. On this important day, which takes place every year on 28 May, the topic of blood cancer and the simplicity of registration is brought to the forefront of society. At the festival, you will also have the opportunity to register with DKMS free of charge - and with a bit of luck, become a lifesaver later on.
