North wind at the limit, Lake Como in a white-water frenzy: freestyle world champion Yentel Caers takes off, the locals are amazed. Photographer Boris Ackermann was there in time, joined the next day by Meiky Wieczorek and Linda Maňková - here are the best pictures and their voices.

From the morning ski tour straight into the 3.3 afternoon storm: a shaky mobile phone clip with flying water from Yentel Caers' home spot is all it takes and Boris Ackermann is on his way from the Swiss mountains to Lecco on Lake Como. On site, the otherwise cosy lake is boiling, the park turns into an arena and the north wind blows constantly at over 50 knots. Yentel delivers double forwards, fat shifts and rocket airs "to the moon". An hour of non-stop action in special light - perfect food for the lens. The following day, Meiky Wieczorek from Lake Garda joins us, the conditions become more moderate, the freestyle vibes remain maximum, including a motivated community on the shore. Click through the gallery and read what Yentel, Meiky and Boris have to say about these big days on Lake Como.

Boris Ackermann, Yentel Caers and Meiky Wieczorek on the top days on Lake Como

Boris: "Early in the morning, I was still on a ski tour when Balz forwarded me a blurred video of Yentel. It showed metre-high waves and flying water on Lake Como, the home spot of freestyle world champion Yentel Caers. I called Yentel, took the skins off my skis and was on the motorway towards Lecco on Lake Como about an hour later. After a three-hour drive, Yentel was already waiting for me there. The scenery was incredible: the actually cosy lake was boiling, a beautiful park and some surfers waiting for Yentel to start his show. And we were not disappointed. With extremely constant winds of over 50 knots at times, Yentel ripped off almost an hour of non-stop action in his third session of the day. The light was very special and made for some great shots.

Yentel: "I've never experienced such strong and above all constant wind for the 3.3 here! I tried to freestyle with 4.0 in the morning, but no chance. When Boris arrived in the afternoon, the water was flying most of the time. I tried double forwards and rocket airs to the moon (laughs). I love conditions like that."

How do you like this article?

Meiky: "This was my first time at Lake Como and I was really pleasantly surprised - by the perfect freestyle conditions, the atmosphere, the strong local windsurfing community... everything was just perfect. everything was just perfect. A great change from Lake Garda, where I spend a lot of time. Surfing with Yentel was of course another highlight and absolutely enriching for me. It's hard to believe how motivated he still is after all these years of full-time windsurfing - and I realised what I still have to do on the water (laughs)."
