The resemblance is recognisable at first glance, as is the talent: Daniel Dunkerbeck has now also caught windsurfing fever, just like his older brother Liam a few years ago. With his long blonde hair and already recognisable talent, 12-year-old Daniel is a spitting image of his older brother. Although the sail is still from the junior range, it has recently been given a sail number that could hardly be more symbolic: E-1111. While Liam inherited the E-11 from Björn, Daniel has chosen the legendary four Ones from Naish, Polakow and Co.
"We go out on the water together as often as possible at home in Gran Canaria, be it in Playa del Aguila, Pozo or Bahia de Formas, depending on the wind," reports Björn. On the Easter weekend, he and Daniel took a trip to Fuerteventura to train together in the small waves. "It's always great fun, he learns something new every time he's on the water and he's already got a bit stronger."
In addition to water starts and power jibes, Dunkerbeck junior has also already mastered jumps, frontside and backside rides - as you can see impressively in the gallery above. "This shows that it's all about technique," says Björn. "Windsurfing has become so easy with modern equipment that anyone can learn it quickly. There is also great equipment for children, which is super easy!"
Daniel Dunkerbeck wants to take part in the U13 category at the World Cup in Pozo in July - finally, as Björn explains: "Last year he said himself that he wasn't ready yet, but this year he probably will be!" Organiser Björn Dunkerbeck is also calling on all other talented youngsters from Europe and around the world to come to Pozo and take part in the World Cup.
In addition to the pros, the juniors are also scheduled to compete in the U13, U15, U18 and U21 categories. Liam Dunkerbeck has also gained plenty of experience in the junior contests and worked his way up to the top of the world, while hot shots such as Marino Gil Gherardi, the Ishii brothers from Japan, Alexia and Carlos Kiefer and Sol Degrieck also had their breakthrough in the Junior World Cups before Pozo.
