We One caused quite a stir at the weekend: first, the Austrians posted a statement on their channels on Friday, which many interpreted as a farewell. In view of the tense market situation in windsurfing, not entirely absurd for a young brand. However, this was followed on Sunday by a clip with a preview of the board brand's new 2025 range, including the announcement that they are now "bigger and stronger".
We One boss Gerhard Scharl explains the campaign to surf: "Firstly, we said thank you for the last two years. Admittedly, the post was designed in such a way that it left room for interpretation." A marketing stunt that apparently had the desired effect: "I am overwhelmed by the positive feedback on this campaign. People were overwhelmingly enthusiastic! We now know that we are absolutely on the right track and we are being taken seriously!"
We One is now "bigger and stronger" for 2025, according to the second post from Sunday. The brand is largely financially independent, explains Scharl, which makes the company particularly free: "We have been able to significantly expand our sales team in recent months. In addition, we already have very good business contacts on almost every continent."
So We One continues with a revised range. The new designs of the boards immediately catch the eye, but they pick up on the familiar black and turquoise look. According to Scharl, many boards have been revised or added to: among other things, the We Wave has been completely revised, other models are being supplemented with new sizes, and the We Foil Style Pro, a pure freestyle foil board, is in the planning stage, as well as downwinders, training boards and pump-foil boards in the wing area.
According to company boss Scharl, the boards now have pads with heel bumpers and additional structure for better grip, new non-skid paint and a special textured paint in the underwater hull "that breaks the surface tension of the water and makes the boards faster", as promised. We One now produces fin boxes and covers for slot boxes on the wave boards itself, and each board comes with an Allen key including a trimming device for the lower leech. We One will also be offering board bags in the new season, and will be launching its own fins and a fashion line over the course of the year.
We One came to public attention around two years ago with a stand at boot Düsseldorf and a complete range. The owner and shaper is Gerhard Scharl from Salzburg, who owns a company in the construction industry and previously ran a local custom label. The boards are developed by Ben van der Steen and Paul Simmerl, and the rider team includes Dennis Müller, Lucas Nebelung and Jacopo Testa.

His surfing CV includes all the famous choppy water spots: As a teenager, he went from his home in Münsterland to the Ijsselmeer or the Brouwersdam, and during his civilian service on Sylt, after countless washes on the west side, the Königshafen became his preferred spot. After studying in Kiel and Heidkate, he was supposed to go to Hamburg “only for a short time”, but this short time has lasted for over ten years and has made him a “weekend warrior”.
