Both were able to beat their competitors in the final and show the audience in Hall 17 spectacular tricks on the XXL pool.
The 19 riders were already cheered on by the spectators in the hall during the preliminary round on Saturday afternoon. Yesterday's final was characterised by alternating thunderous applause and excitement. Each run brought more confidence, with each round the level became higher. It was only in the last round of the final that Lennart Neubauer scored 9.17 points for a double culo, just ahead of second-placed George Grisley with 9 points. Niclas Nebelung in third place completed the podium, while Yentel Caers had to settle for fourth place.
Commenting on his victory, the Greek said: "It's a mega cool experience to have the first World Cup here on the boot. The support from the audience here is incredible. It was really fun. And it's events like this that help to make the sport bigger and better known!"
In the women's competition, favourite Maaike Huvermann had her nose in front right from the start. "It's really challenging to perform on the pool here because it's so short. But we put on a good show and landed some cool moves!" she said. Elena Dominick took second place, while Germany's best freestyler Lisa Kloster was unfortunately only able to watch due to injury.
Petros Michelidakis, Director of boot Düsseldorf, was visibly impressed by the riders at the award ceremony: "What you have shown here on the pool is amazing. I am glad that we at boot have the opportunity to offer this sport a stage and that we have taken advantage of it. Our pool with 1.3 million litres of water in the middle of a trade fair is unique and brings the sport of surfing directly to those we want to inspire and motivate."
